Manali Hill Station. Manali is a beautiful hill station in Kullu District in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It has an average altitude of 6,427 feet above mean sea level. Manali is located on the bank of Beas River about 39 km away from Kullu City hub and 268 km away from Shimla.

The very name Manali evokes visual of snow-covered mountains, stately deodar tree, apple archards and tumbling Beas. So lucky are these who have opted for Manali, a calm and quite place in the Western Himalayas as their holidays destination.

Hadimba Temple:
Manali has many attractions, but the chief center of interest, historically and archeologically, is undoubtedly the DHOONGRI TEMPLE dedicated to goddess Hadimba, the Bhim of Mahabharata fame. It has a four-tiered Pagoda shaped roof and the doorway is carved with legendary figures and symbols. This temple located amidst wooden forest of deodar is about 2.5 km from the tourist office. It is a pleasant experience to stroll in the temple complex which was built in 1533 A.D. A large festival is held here in May.

Manu Temple in Old Manali:
This magnificent temple is dedicated to the sage Manu, who is said to be the creator of the world and the writer of Manusmriti. The Manu Temple is located in old Manali, at a distance of three kilometers from the main market. Though this area is quite congested, the presence of the River Beas adds to its attraction. The temple is one of the prime attractions in Manali and is believed to be the same place where sage Manu meditated after stepping on earth. This place has a distinct historical background that appeals to most of the people who visit Manali. The popularity of this majestic temple lies in the fact that it is the only temple dedicated to Manu; so whoever visits Manali makes it a point to visit this temple. The travelers are advised to wear dresses covering the knees and shoulders, while inside the temple.

Vashisht Hot Water spring:
Vashisht is a small village located around 3 km from Manali across the River Beas. This beautiful village is famous for its sulphurous hot water springs and Vashisht temple, built just next to the springs. The water from this spring is believed to have great healing powers, which can cure many skin diseases and other infections. There are Turkish-style bath houses available here that contain the hot water from the springs, which are used to take bath and enjoy the warmth of the place in privacy. There are separate baths for both men and women, fitted with showers.

Vashisht also houses many temples that are dedicated to a local saint Vashisht and Lord Rama. This place has a refreshing atmosphere that allows one to indulge in exotic baths while seeking blessing from the presiding deity of the temple.

Tibetan Monastery:
It is new and colorful. A pleasant place to visit. It is famous for carpet waving. Visitors can buy carpets and other handicrafts here.

Enjoy excursion to Rohtang Pass - Situated at an altitude of 3979 meters above sea level offers a wide panoramic view of the mountains where you can also witness Snow. Situated about 51 km from Manali town on the highway to Kelong. Here one sees the majesty of the mountains at its height and splendor. At the top of the Pass the air seems to glitter against the snow as you look down over herringboned ridges into the Lahaul valley. There is the beautiful Dusher Lake left to the Pass, where pilgrims go every year on the auspicious day of 20thBhadon. Rohtang Pass is the only access to Lahaul Valley. The pass is open from June to September each year.

Kothi:
It is a quit picturesque spot, at the foot of Rohtang Pass. It used to be a camping place when the Pass was crossed by feet. From here you have a magnificent view of the snow-capped peaks and glaciers. Close to the Village is an awe-inspiring gorge where the Beas enters a chasm about sixty-one meters deep and just a few meters broad.

Gulaba:

Jagatsukh Temple:
It is one of the biggest Villages in Kullu District and host the ancient Temple of Gayatri Devi built by Pandvas. Jagatsukh is home to a major population of priests of the Kullu Valley. A place of interest close to the Village is Arjun Gufha, the legendary cave, where Arjun practiced austerities to get a weapon from Lord Indra, the place is now in ruins.

Nagger (Gauri-Shankar Temple, Nagger Fort, and Roerich Art Gallery:
Nagger, a lovely village set on a hill surrounded by forest was the capital of Kullu in the 16th century. And the monuments in the region are witness to its glorious past. The Nagger castle, a stone and wood structure built by Raja Sidh Singh over 500 years ago, has been converted into a heritage hotel. The gracefully built castle has a temple in the courtyard and also houses a small museum. The temples of that area, such as the grey sandstone Gauri Shankar Temple of Shiva or the Jagti Patt Temple, with its triangular slab of stone, strewn with rose petals and rupee notes are worth a visit.

The paintings and photographs of the Russian Nicholas Roerich are exhibited in the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery. He was a famous artist, writer, photographer, archeologist, explorer and mystic who settled down in this area. One can see the beds, library, settees, writing tables, toiletries and samovars of his family in the museum.
